” I was a student here for 2 years ( on and off) and I’m happy with all the values, habits, and discipline it instilled in me. Like anything in life, whatever you perceive negatively will show in all aspects of present life. You either make the best of it or waste it. What I’ve noticed with my peers is those who actually took advantage of the program and didn’t complain about the toughness of the school are all doing amazing in life. Those who complained and negatively acted created their own problems, as opposed to correcting themselves and develop. Most of the kids and teens that attended the school had some sort of social problem whether it be rude in manner, awkward, narrcisitic, arrogant – we were troubled and the staff enforced corrective discipline. The way the alumni say that they were abused is an overstatement. Really the “abuse” was either 20 pushups, a 3km jog, or if you were a real nuisance – a suspension that consisted of a 24km jog, pulling weeds out the ground, cleaning, jogging everywhere you go, sleeping on your mattress, standing while you eat and losing tv privileges. If you didn’t do the corrective discipline, you’d simply be scolded til you did then eventually expelled if you didn’t go through with jt. No physical abuse ever occurred – maybe for the kids that had anger issues and tried to fight staff. The alumni that didn’t excel at the school as a result of their negative attitude are most likely vindictive as a result of that corrective discipline and are now trying to join the bandwagon of bashing that the academy is receiving. Most of the stories that are coming out now were also stories that circulated during the time I attended the academy – they are over-exagerrated. As I said, the kids were troubled and didn’t want to be fixed and as a result problems arose. Thank you to this academy for developing my character, grounding my discipline, and getting me into shape. Sad to see the doors closing. To the staff that attended when I was there, thank you for everything – you were just doing your job. Most of the staff actually cared about turning boys into men. “
” Robertland (RLA) is offering an environment for boys to excel academically and personally while teaching values needed to succeed in life – discipline, self-care, leadership. A unique military themed school for boys with a very balanced responsive leadership team and teaching staff and an environment where all parents can feel proud of their son’s achievements. It has changed our son’s trajectory to one that’s more positive, disciplined and with more purpose on what he wants to achieve in life. Mostly, it’s taught him that being diagnosed with ADHD is just a diagnosis and that fresh air, no electronics, plenty of exercise, healthy food and a disciplined approach to academics allow him to excel in anything he commits to. Public school suggested he do applied courses – he has not! He has managed to improve significantly doing academic courses at RLA and now understands that there is no magic – hard work and studying are the key to improving academic outcomes. Life is not without challenges so of course there were some challenges along the way but these were managed very effectively by RLA senior staff. Moreover, on any encounter with the school and its staff – it’s clear that they knew our son and were rooting for him to succeed. He was not a statistic. School events instilled a parent with pride watching the careful coordination in military styled parades and meticulously assembled boys in uniform. After two years we are very grateful we made the decision to send our son to RLA. It certainly exceeded our expectations. “
” I cannot recommend Robert Land Academy enough. If any of the following resonates with you, please consider RLA for your son. We enrolled my nephew at RLA last November for grade 7 and quickly saw remarkable results that we thought impossible given his academic history. Before RLA, we had tried various programs, specialty schools, and professional help, but the outcomes only worsened. RLA was our last hope as it was clear his previous school had thought him a lost cause. During the RLA interview, we stated our goal for the year: if he could write a proper sentence by hand, we would be satisfied. He achieved this within the first month and continued to surpass our expectations. By year-end, he earned passing grades in all subjects, some in the mid to high 70s—something I honestly didn’t believe possible. Beyond academics, we noticed smaller, essential changes. We saw pride when he looked at the dress shirt he ironed by himself, confidence when talking about his friends, and excitement of surprising his classmates with the cool project poster he worked on during leave. These subtle improvements in his confidence and self-worth make his time at RLA worthwhile, and are likely to stick with him into adulthood. I genuinely believe RLA’s methods have sparked my nephew’s incredible growth. The highly structured environment, small classes focusing on student’s strengths/weaknesses, replacing electronics with fun engaging activities have worked wonders. Most importantly, RLA teach students that certain behaviours are unacceptable though reasonable consequence, while also providing positive reinforcement though various perks and overall encouragement. While the push-ups were frequent, and likely will be this coming year, I am filled with hope that my nephew will continue to improve, grow, and face new challenges. For the very first time, I feel hopeful about his future, and I can’t wait to see what grade 8 has in store for him. “
” An amazing environment for young men aimed at challenging their limits and unlocking their full potential. To achieve these successes, the Academy takes the best practices of military culture and combines it with a supportive environment and personalized attention. The education receive is well rounded, not merely academic, but social and emotional as well. Cadets learn the ever so important soft skills so lacking in the workplace today. Leadership, work ethic, time management, teamwork, resiliency, accountability, communication, and problem solving are but a few of the many traits that are nurtured at the Academy, which, when combined with their “Academic” education will provide them with a future full of opportunity. I was a student some years ago and it literally changed the course of my life. It can for you to! “
” The staff at Robert Land Academy were caring and consistent. We were completely confident in our son’s safety during COVID. It took just two weeks, two!, for RLA to have a positive impact on our son being able to do his homework without argument or conflict. His favorite parts were: the annual hike along the Bruce Trail to Fort George; learning survival skills in the woods at the school; and weekly club day. We highly recommend RLA. It was the best decision we made for our son’s education. “
