The Shire School
” Our son attends JK at this school. He has said he wants to stay until graduation in grade 6! Rave review from a highly opinionated 4 year old. Our family is not Mandarin-speaking or of Chinese heritage. We chose the school because we value foreign language learning, particularly a challenging language like Mandarin, during the once in a lifetime language acquisition period in childhood. We also chose the school because of its low student to teacher ratio, retention of highly skilled teaching staff and impressive curriculum design. We toured many schools before deciding on the Shire. Overall we found that the Shire was the right choice objectively as well as on an intuitive level. “
” The Shire School has provided our daughter with an unparalleled elementary school experience. Our daughter graduates from The Shire School fluent in Mandarin and Spanish and with a love of learning. She leaves fully prepared to meet any future academic challenges. The faculty, in addition to being superlatively qualified, capable, passionate, and trustworthy, is committed and dedicated to providing an exceptional educational environment for your child. We could not be more pleased and impressed with the school. “
” The Shire School, being a Mandarin / English dual language school, balances the traditional Asian focus on academics with a modern nuance of social and emotional growth of students, and provides an excellent education for our daughter. With the advantage of small class sizes, the teachers can and will adapt a curriculum that best suits each student. The attention and care that they provide are unparalleled. We consider ourselves fortunate to have our daughter being taught by the Shire. “
” The Shire School provides a caring and enriching environment for young children. Our daughter is excited to go to school and shares her learning with us each day. She is being exposed to 3 languages (English, Mandarin and Spanish) from 4-5 teachers daily, which helps her learn to adapt to different teaching styles and to become a global citizen. Since it’s a close-knit school, older kids tend to look after the younger ones. The school’s location is also ideal for children to explore the city with many museums, parks and UofT nearby. “
” The teachers at the Shire are amazing! They are all very kind and caring. The small class sizes mean my daughter is receiving a lot of specialized attention, and they know when they can push and challenge her. She is learning an impressive amount of Mandarin and whenever I listen to her speak it, I get a giddy smile on my face. My husband and I don’t speak the language so all the Mandarin she’s learned is thanks to the Shire! Love the building and the location, it’s very easy for us to take the subway there, barely a block walk from St George station. “
