” I went here from 2015-2017. It’s a mixed bag. I could rant on about the science department and personnel there, but this would be an essay. So I’ll sum it up with one phrase: teachers get some nice benefits as government employees, and they make it pretty obvious that that’s why they’re there. You can probably get an idea of what I mean. But again, it’s a mixed bag. Ms. Ridgeway and Mr. Thomas were exceptions. In the other departments, it’s also a mixed bag. Overall, be prepared for incessant insults by the teachers if you go to WCI. However, the grades there are weighted more highly, and in my day colleges would weight WCI marks better than if you went to KCI, or Forest Heights, or something like that. So if you’re going here, it’s to get into UWaterloo, or some accredited university and that’s about it. “
” Excellent School. As a parent I believe WCI offers all rounded development for my son with very active math club, robotics club, student council and more. Teachers here are very well qualified with many having years of Industry experience. Its website guidance page links need refresh as many postings are years old and no longer relevant. I wish they had staff to monitor various website sections since as a parent we rely a lot on website beyond parents teacher meeting, calendar and school day emails. Also it would be nice if guidance can provide waitlisting number in course when student sees no space. I was told there was grade 12 math availability in two separate emails and later told it is full. Not sure if it was accidental error or racial discrimination. This has happened twice in last 3 years. A school kid dropped $90 in cycle parking. We returned it at office and asked office to let us know if they found right owner. No reply from school principal on two emails. But these are operational and administrative issues which can be sorted out by better unbiased management. We send our kids for education and overall development and I am very happy with that side of things. “
” This school gives fantastic lessons, really recommend for those who appreciate foreign languages and are looking to work in French speaking or abroad. The teachers may have an attitude problem, but that serves to thicken your skin, as their incessant insults become part of daily life. “
” As someone who has attended both Waterloo Collegiate, and Sir john A. Macdonald secondary, I can definitely say my two years at WCI was quite memorable, but not necessarily for the best reasons. At least half of the staff I worked with had extremely racist tendencies, and treated myself, my brother, as well as others unfairly and in an extremely unjust manner compared to ‘other’ (for lack of better wording) students. Whenever concerns were brought up, those same teachers would essentially tell me to get over it… My specific VP, as well as the front desk was also unhelpful – if not less – than teachers. Luckily, the school has an amazing principal who takes these situations very seriously, and I was given the opportunity to transfer schools without a question. The Air Conditioning and cleanliness is another topic entirely.. would be appreciated if things were more up kept. I recommend this school if you live close-by… otherwise not my first choice. “
